Al Wasl believe that Welliton Soares' arrival at the Zabeel Stadium will spark a revival in their fortunes next season.
The Cheetahs signed the 33-year-old Brazilian forward from freshly-minted Arabian Gulf League champions Sharjah, just days before playmaker Caio Canedo made the big switch to record 13-time winners Al Ain.
Al Wasl confirmed Soares' signing on social media but didn't give any details of the length of the contract nor the fee involved. But www.transfermarkt.com pegged the deal at ? 2 million for Soares, who joins on a free transfer.
Soares made 45 appearances for Sharjah whom he joined in 2017, on a two-year contract. He scored 27 goals and had 10 assists during his time with 'The King.'
Soares spent seven seasons with Spartak Moscow during which he had loan spells with Brazilian sides Gremio, Sao Paulo and Spanish club Celta Vigo. Prior to joining Sharjah, Soares played one season with Turkish club Kayserispor.
With Canedo moving to Al Ain, Soares will link up with Fabio de Lima and Ronaldo Mendes as Al Wasl try to mount another assault on domestic front, under Romanian manager Laurentiu Reghecampf.
The Cheetahs, who last won the League in 2007 and were runners-up in 2017, finished a disappointing ninth, last term.
