Three Miss Universe candidates, representing the USA, Colombia, and Australia came under fire when a video of them making fun of fellow contestants, who can't speak English, surfaced online.
According to GMA News, the video was from an Instagram Live broadcast hosted by Miss Colombia Valeria Morales. In the broadcast, Miss USA Sarah Rose Summers is joined by Miss Australia Frances Hung and Miss Colombia as they discuss their fellow candidates. They first talked about Miss Vietnam H'Hen Nie.
"Oh my God, she's so cute, Hung immediately said to which Morales replied, "fashion."
Summers followed this up and said: "She's so cute and she pretends to know so much English, and you ask her a question and after having a whole English conversation with her, she goes -" she then proceeds to mimic Nie's smile. After this, Summers took aim at Miss Cambodia Rern Nat; she said: "Miss Cambodia is here but she doesn't speak any English, and not a single other person speaks her language. Can you imagine?"
Hung acknowledged Summers' comments and remarked how hard the situation must be. Miss USA replies to this and says "Poor Cambodia."
Miss Cambodia has spoken up about the controversy. Taking to Instagram, she shared a photo of the five ladies in smiles and hugging. "I speak the language of love, respect and understanding. I love you, my sisters," she wrote on the caption.
