The UAE Ministry of Economy opened the country's pavilion at the fifth Business of Intellectual Property Asia (BIP Asia) Forum, which opened at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The UAE became the first country in the Middle East and North Africa to organise an exhibition at the international event jointly organised by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and Hong Kong Design Centre.
This year's three-day BIP Asia Forum adopts the theme "IP: Transforming Global Business", and features more than 80 prominent speakers and attracts a large number of IP professionals and industry players.
The ministry's participation at the event is in cooperation with the HKTDC and the Abu Dhabi Technology Development Committee. The BIP Forum serves as a valuable networking platform and addresses the needs of owners, users and service suppliers of IP by inviting experts from across the globe to share their insights and promote global IP trading.
The 35-strong UAE delegation to the forum is headed by Abdullah Al Saleh, Undersecretary for Foreign Trade and Industry at the Ministry of Economy, and includes 15 Emirati innovators, representatives of Dubai Exports, Dubai Economic Council, Dubai's Department of Economic Development, Sharjah Economic Development Department, UAE University, Abu Dhabi University and others. The participants will use the event to introduce and market their ideas.
Al Saleh inaugurated the UAE pavilion in the presence of Raymond Yip, deputy executive director of the HKTDC; Ahmed Al Khaja, Consul-General of the UAE in Hong Kong; and Perry Fung, regional director for the Middle East and Africa office of the HKTDC. During the forum, Al Saleh will deliver a keynote speech entitled "A New Era of Cooperation - IP Opportunities under the Belt and Road Initiative" to shed light on the UAE's position on China's Belt and Road Initiative and the pivotal role Hong Kong is playing. - Wam
