An Asian, who hit on the head of his compatriot with a sharp-edged tool causing him a permanent injury, went into hiding for five years since the incident took place.

The Sharjah Police referred the case to court recently.

The family of the accused and the police launched a manhunt until they found him and brought him to the court for trial. The accused had earlier been sentenced in absentia.

The lawyer of the accused presented his defence. He revealed that the accused was a juvenile - aged only 16 years - when the incident happened. He also said that the family of the victim had dropped the case against the accused. He presented a certified letter from the public notary in this regard.

The presiding judge adjourned the court hearing till the end of October.
