A security guard has gone on trial at a Dubai court for assaulting three policemen.

According to the public prosecution records, the 22-year-old Kenyan guard also verbally abused the three officers in public in Al Nakheel, Naif area, on April 16.

He faced charges of assaulting on-duty police officers in public and verbally abusing them.

A sergeant, who was among the officers assaulted by the guard, said the incident happened after he stopped the defendant and ordered him to produce an ID. "There had been a fight in the same area where he was. But he would not comply and rather acted tensely, insulting me. He then banged his head repeatedly against the wall. I had him restrained with my colleagues."

The sergeant told the prosecutor that even after calling paramedics, the guard would not want to be treated on the spot. He was then taken into custody at Naif police station.

A Pakistani businessman, 38, testified during investigation that he saw the guard assaulting the officers and insulting them. "I saw him also spitting on them. He caused one of them to fall down after he pushed him. I don't know the guard and have no idea why he assaulted the officers who were in uniform."

The trial has been adjourned to July 2.
