An Asian man, who was found guilty of murdering his colleague, has escaped the death penalty after the family of the victim pardoned him. The Sharjah criminal court has now sentenced him to three years in jail to be followed by deportation.
The convict murdered his colleague by stabbing him while they were on a boat in Sharjah's Khalid Port. A witness said they did not know the cause of the dispute between them.
A police official said when they reached the crime scene, eyewitnesses said they found the victim in a pool of blood with the convict next to him.
The convict's lawyer contacted the victim's family and offered blood money in exchange for a pardon. The family accepted.
During the investigation by the police and public prosecution, the convict had denied the charges. He claimed he did not know who stabbed the victim and that he had rushed to help him after seeing him bleeding.
