A 19-year-old Saudi man, who was allegedly drunk when he resisted and acted violently towards two police officers, has gone on trial at a Dubai court.
The unemployed man is also accused of flashing his middle finger at the cops.
He has been charged at the Court of First Instance with resisting and physically assaulting two on-duty police officers, committing an indecent act in public and consuming liquor without a license.
The case dates back to March 30, this year, in Al Muraqqabat.
A policeman said he and a colleague were patrolling Al Rigga area at 12:55 pm. "An Indian  watchman informed us that a man was sleeping in a way that is unsafe to him and others in the parking lot."
The policemen walked to the accused and tried to wake him up. "When he opened his eyes and saw our uniform, he did an indecent gesture -flashed his middle finger at us- and then kicked me on my right knee," said one of the officers.
As the cop fell down, the accused tried to run away but he was caught by the other policeman. "He fought me back fiercely. He bit me in the shoulder and punched me on my head. My colleague then grabbed him," the other cop said.
The accused was then taken to Al Muraqqabat police station for the necessary procedure.
The officers gave their depositions on the incident and were then referred to the forensic medical examination.
The watchman, 52, said he got worried when he spotted the man sleeping between the cars in the parking lot outside the building. "I was about to call the police when I saw a patrol car."
He told the prosecutor he witnessed the drunk man resisting aggressively the two on-duty policemen, kicking, biting and punching them.
The defendant admitted during police questioning and public prosecution investigation to consuming alcohol and assaulting cops charges.
The defendant will be sentenced on May 24.
