A car mirror found near the accident site was a giveaway and helped the Dubai Police track the driver involved in a hit-and-run which claimed the lives of two Asians in Al Qusais.
The police sent the mirror as part of evidence to the forensic department. After thorough examination, it was established that the mirror was that of a 2006 model car. The forensic experts also found out that the vehicle's colour was grey.
The police immediately issued a circular and police patrols carried out intensive checking of the cars parked in the nearby area, where the accident had taken place. After survey and review, the police found that the car involved in the accident belonged to a 21-year-old woman. They questioned the woman, who said that the car was taken by her brother. The cops zeroed in on her 20-year-old brother and nabbed him. During interrogation, the man confessed to driving the vehicle under the influence of alcohol and hitting the two Asians. He said he fled the scene as he was scared that he would be arrested. After that, he tried to hide the car.
Brigadier Yusuf al-Adidi, director of Al-Qusais police station, said that the accident took place at 5:00 am last month when two Asians were run over by a car. The driver fled the scene and was traceless. The search and investigation team as well as the forensic experts rushed to the site.
Since there were no eye witnesses at the site and no cameras available, the police found it hard to identify the culprit. They spotted a car mirror lying on the ground near the accident site. It was sent to the forensic department, which examined it and verified that it was of a 2006 model car. They also determined that the colour of the vehicle was grey, Al-Adidi pointed out.
After tracking the killer motorist, the police referred him to public prosecution.

Truck driver arrested for running over 3 people

In another hit- and-run accident, a truck driver ploughed into three people and escaped from the scene. He was later arrested.
One of the victims died on the spot, while the other two were taken to hospital in critical condition. Al Adidi said the victims were hit while they are standing on the side of the road waiting for bus during evening hours.
He said a search team was formed and forensic experts confirmed that a heavy truck caused the accident.
Al-Adidi pointed out that 10 trucks, including a cement mixer, were checked. While checking trucks belonging to contracting companies, the side lighting of one of them was found broken and blood stains were also detected.
The driver was grilled and he confessed to his crime.
