More than Dh112,000 has been raised through a crowd funding website for an Irish expatriate, whose wife and two-year-old son tragically died in Dubai last month.
According to a family statement posted on the justgiving.com page 10 days ago, it is raising "£15,000 to help Satya Darcy cover the unexpected funerals costs of his wife and son".
The Dubai Police earlier confirmed that a 38-year-old woman jumped from a Bur Dubai hotel after throwing her son to his death from the 6th floor. The incident happened in late September.
On Sunday, the police told Khaleej Times that the bodies of the two victims are still in Dubai. "All legal and administrative procedures to release the bodies for repatriation have been completed," a police source said.
So far, the page (setup by Darcy's family) has raised more than 150 per cent of its original target to help support the Irish husband and father - with just over £23,000 (Dh112,000) donated to date.
According to the page, Satya's "wonderful wife and beautiful baby son were his whole world".
"Since the devastating news of their passing in Dubai, it has been Satya's primary focus to bring his family back home to Ireland," the statement read.
According to the page, Darcy's wife, 38-year-old Mildred, was originally from Venezuela but lived in Ireland for over 10 years and called it home. Their 2-year-old son, Kiran, was the couple's first child.
The money being raised through the page will be used to help provide assistance to cover the cost of the funerals and any other associated costs since the duo's demise.
"Thank you so much to everyone for your continued support. We are honestly overwhelmed by all of the messages and donations we have received. We would be most grateful if you can continue to share this page in your social media networks," the family wrote.
The tragedy
According to Colonel Ahmad Humaid Al Marri, director of crime scene department of criminal evidence and criminology at Dubai Police, officers found two letters written by the mother - who came from a neighbouring emirate - at the scene of the tragedy.
The first one was addressed to the police, which said that she was committing suicide as her child suffered from cancer. In the second one, she apologised to her husband for taking the extreme step and for depriving him of his child.
Following the tragic incident, police said they questioned the victim's husband, who revealed that his wife had psychological problems.
