Cairo - The footage opens with a man crouched over a woman lying in the street.

A horrifying video clip, which shows a man trying to behead his 'wife' before neighbours' intervention saved her, has gone viral.
The footage opens with a man crouched over a woman lying in the street.

He is immediately surrounded by an angry mass of neighbours who begin to attack him. But in the nick of time a man appears from behind boots him in the back, and another throws a brick at his head.
This encourages onlookers to intervene and the man is soon running from a mob of angry men.
 
The violent clip was uploaded to video sharing site LiveLeak and the caption suggests it was captured in Cairo, Egypt.
It also claimed that the woman was 'ok' following the incident.
