The Titans needed the final seconds to beat the formidable and seasoned City Fives 58-56 who erred in the closing phases of the thrilling league phase match.
City Fives had their chances in the last quarter. They had plenty of chances to seal this key match up but fumbled in the dying moments of the game. Titans scored 13-9 and 21-15 in the first two quarters and led 34-24 at half time.
City Fives came back from behind to score 22-12 in the third quarter and level the score 46-46 at the end of that quarter. It was a neck-n-neck battle in the last quarter as both the teams fought for supremacy. City fives who led 56-54 in the dying moments of the game lost the ball positions continuously to Titans who quickly scored two field goals to clinch victory.
For Titans, Nithin led his team with 17 points followed by Savio 14 points and the hero of the last quarter, Arafat, scored 11 point.
For City Fives Subin netted 14 points and Susheel and Mathew scored 11 points each.
The Wisdom Education’s ‘The A Team’ stopped Hoopers 77-66 in a men’s division Pool B league fixture at the same venue. At half time Wisdom Education led 41-23.
Hoopers fought back in the third quarter to score 26-12 and reduced the deficit to four points, 53-49.
Hoopers lost their skipper Cyril Miranda and post player Jude who committed five personal fouls in the last quarter which made things easier for Wisdom who scored 24-17 in the last quarter to claim victory. Subin (18), Nashad (14) and Rohit (15) led the As charge. Cyril Miranda (17), Jude (15) and Cyril Braganza (14) were the lead scorers for Hoopers.
Stars took a commanding 25-9 lead after the second quarter and blanked Our Own English High School, Dubai in the third quarter 34-9 of the women’s league. Joma Rose Manuel, former Kannur University and Calvary, an ex-junior State player from Andhra Pradesh, combined well to steer Stars to a 51-16 victory over Our Own. Joma top scored for Stars with 25 points followed by Harshana on 11.
