The Kolluna Al Emarat – Kolluna Khalifa Nine Ball Open Championship, which is being held under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council (DSC), shall see GCC-based players and international stars compete over three days between July 2nd and 4th.
Qualifying events will take place in selected pool clubs and lounges across all emirates in the build-up to the grand finale, where 128 cueists shall challenge each other in a round-robin format prior to the knockout phase from the last 64 onwards.
The tournament is being organised by Pro9, who are the UAE Billiards and Snooker Association’s (UAE BSA’s) management partners, while InterPool are the championship’s official partners.
“The association thanks the Dubai Sports Council and all our partners for their support,” said Sultan Al Joker of the UAE BSA.
“Besides being the region’s biggest nine ball championship, Kolluna Al Emarat – Kolluna Khalifa contributes towards the development of local talent due to its unique format.”
Dr Ahmad Al Sharif, the secretary general of the DSC, commented: “The Dubai Sports Council congratulates UAE BSA on the mammoth initiative, where over 1,000 players will take part in the qualifiers with the aim of reaching the coveted trophy.
“Their vision and planning will contribute greatly towards the sport at the most basic level now and for years to come.”
Pro9’s Hesham Al Hindi added: “Nine ball is a sport played quite extensively across the UAE and events of this scale will allow the country to nurture its local talent while developing a sports event property of a global scale.
“We thank our partners for their support and UAE BSA for giving Pro9 the opportunity to organise the region’s biggest-ever championship of its kind.”
