CBI tourney off to blistering start

Two centuries and one five-wicket haul were the highlights of the First Commercial Bank International T20 league being played at Umm Al Quwain grounds.

Mehboob Butt of Maklai CC hit a 51-ball 135, while Safdar Ali of Brothersgas CC score 185 from 83 deliveries but the latter had to end on the losing side as Maklai edged their rivals by two runs in a closely contested match.

The tournament, held under the supervision of the Emirates Cricket Board and played under the auspices of the Ajman Cricket Council, is being organised by Umm Al Quwain Cricket under the leadership of Mushtaq Ahmed Chowdhary.

The sponsors are Commercial Bank International.

Shiraj T of Arabian CC bagged a five wicket haul, which included a hat-trick as his club trounced Arabian CC by 118 runs in another match.

In the other matches, Commercial Bank International (CBI) beat Dubai Islamic Bank by 59 runs; Gorica Industries defeated A-MAP CC by 89 runs; Golden Tower LLC overcame Veterans Granslam CC by 27 runs and Infocom Dubai Strikers beat Gorica Industries by seven wickets.

Electing to bat after winning the toss, Maklai piled up 267 runs for the loss of seven wickets as Butt hit 15 sixes and seven four for his 135. Abid Vaid 29, Amin Maklain 20 and Tariq Maklai 18 were the other scorers for the winners. Tahir Hasan, Asif Ali and Safdar Ali bagged two wickets each for the losers.

Facing a daunting task, Brothergas CC struggled to make runs to fall short by two runs in the end. Safdar Ali was the lone ranger for Brothersgas as he took the battle in his own hands and scored 185 runs. He belted 15 sixes and one four but his efforts went in vain as his team fell two runs short of the victory target. Ammer Ayoub chipped in 30.

Rizwan Bheda was the most successful bowler for Maklai claiming four wickets for 46 runs. Safdar Ali of Brothersgas CC was named the man of the match for his efforts.

Shiraj bags five

Shiraj T of Arabian CC helped his team beat Brothergas CC by 118 runs. Batting first Arabian CC set up a victory target of 251 but Brothersgas CC were all out for 133.

Pradeep A top scored for the winners with 65 followed by Bibin Jacob 46, Jacob John 35, Shiraj 25 not out, and Sunil Verghese 21.

Asad bagged three wickets for the losers conceding 34 runs.

Shiraj bagged five wickets, including a hat-trick whilst conceding 15 runs in his four-over spell. Shibu Pillai and Jacob John bagged two wickets each. Shiraj of Arabian CC was named the man of the match.

The sponsors team, CBI, overcame Dubai Islamic Bank, following an all-round performance of Usman A.

Usman fist scored 72 as CBI scored 182 and later snared two wickets for 21 runs to be later named the man of the match. Lison 56 and Shauqat 13 were the other contributors for the winners.

Mohammed Faisal bagged four wickets for 28 runs.

Dubai Islamic Bank managed only 123 for the loss of eight wickets. Mohammed Saifullah 34, Kashif Pasha 23 were the scorers for the losers.

Hitesh claimed three wickets for 21 and Usman bagged two for 21.

Gorica Industries beat A-MAP CC by 89 runs: Gorica Industries 207 for 7 (Darshana Kumara 60, Harvesh Gabba 48, Waqas Ahmed 43; Nawaz Mohammed 2-29, Ayesh Ahmed 2-44), A-MAP CC 118 all out in 15.2 overs (Ayesh Ahmed 25, Nawaz Mohammed 20*, Shehzad Butt 18; Zeeshan Durrani 4-20.
