A late half century from Faisal Ashraf meant WH Abu Dhabi Gymkhana registered a close two-wicket victory over UAE Exchange in the 6th Al Dhaid Gold Cup tournament at the Al Dhaid Cricket Village. The tournament is organized by the Sharjah Cricket Council.
Chasing a huge target of 231 to win, Abu Dhabi Gymkhana were provided a strong foundation with openers Irfan and Awais sharing a 81-run stand. While Irfan scored a steady 39 from 43 deliveries peppered with five boundaries and a six and Awais hit a quick 28-ball 36 with the help of three fours and a six. UAE Exchange’s Farhan pegged back the initiative picking up three quick wickets as Abu Dhabi Gymkhana from 81 no loss slipped to 90 for five.
Asim and Ashraf revived the hopes coming up with splendid performances as the duo shared a superb 106-run stand for the sixth wicket.
While Ashraf smashed 10 boundaries to reach a fine 69 from just 50 balls, Asim played the perfect second fiddle scoring a steady 33 from 43 balls containing two fours and a six. Shahnil then struck thrice to suddenly change the frame of the game before Raihan and Jamil blasted an identical 13 in the end as Abu Dhabi Gymkhana sailed past the target in the 38.1 overs.
Earlier, put in to bat first, UAE Exchange also made a strong start with openers Sachin (27) and Imtiaz (46) putting on 88 runs for the opening wicket.
Usman (15), Naeem (31) and Aneesh (24) made significant contributions while Shanil chipped in with an unbeaten 17 as UAE Exchange amassed 230 for nine in 40 overs.
For Abu Dhabi Gymkhana, Asim, Awais and Rehan bagged two wickets each.
