At present, the emirate has Egyptian trade centre, Chinese trade centre and the latest one is India Trade and Exhibition Centre m.e. that will be officially inaugurated by India’s President Pratibha Devisingh Patil this week.
“We have a lot of requests for these kind of trade centres, unless they are concrete I cannot tell you,” Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry Director General Hussain Al Mahmoudi told Khaleej Times on Tuesday after a news conference, which was held to announce the inauguration ceremony of India trade centre. The chamber is working on some requests, Al Mahmoudi said, adding: “We are talking to Turkey and some other countries. These centres are part of us as they are attached with the chamber. We try to make sure all the support to them.” Around 35 per cent of the total industry of the UAE is based in Sharjah, he said. While giving the example of ‘Made in Sharjah’ exhibition, he said that government is very active to support businesses in the emirate.
This show is a clear example of government interest in promoting the business in the emirate as the chamber is providing everything free of charge for the exhibitors at the event, he said. The chamber also provides opportunities to local companies to explore new markets through trade delegation visits to other countries, he said. The ‘Made in Sharjah’ exhibition, which draws about 100 local exhibitors and last until November 25, provides an integrated platform for local businesses and industrial companies that cater to clients from various regional and international markets, particularly countries in West Asia and Africa.
The exhibition showcases products and services from different industry sectors, including food and beverage, woodworks and furniture, home and industrial chemical products, building materials, fabrics, printing and publishing, non-metallic raw materials, machinery and manufacturing equipment, cement and rapid concrete.—abdulbasit@khaleejtimes.com
