Aircraft movements were up half a percentage point in 2013, to reach 66,244 compared to the 65,975 movements in 2012. The freight handled for the same period of 2013 was recorded at nearly 300,000 tonnes.

This increase comes mainly on the back of new routes and additional frequencies at Sharjah International Airport, especially by Air Arabia, the UAE’s national carrier which is popular amongst travelers due to its packages, attractive prices, services, and connectivity to 87 destinations in a fleet of modern aircrafts.

Ali Salem Al Midfa, chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority, said: “We continue to work closely with our airline partners to identify opportunities that would generate more traffic for Sharjah International Airport.” Al Midfa mentioned that ongoing projects carried out by airport, will increase capacity of the airport and help stimulate this growth further.
