Dubai: Hong Kong is keen to use Dubai as a gateway for its small- and medium-sized enterprises, or SMEs, to promote their goods and services in the Middle East and Africa region.
This was disclosed by Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) regional director for the Middle East and Africa Perry Fung during a brief chat with Khaleej Times after a news conference in Dubai on Sunday. The news conference was held to announce the second edition of the Hong Kong Lifestyle Expo in Dubai, which will run on November 10 and 11.
During the expo, the HKTDC will provide one-on-one business-matching services for buyers, as well as online sourcing solutions and sourcing publications. Participants will include importers, distributors, mass retailers, mail-order houses, department stores and specialist suppliers from the UAE and neighbouring countries.
“This is our second consecutive year to organise this fair. The objective is that we want to encourage more Hong Kong SMEs to better use Dubai as a business gateway for both products and services to explore the Mena and other African countries. At the same time in Dubai we want to encourage Dubai enterprises that they can consider Hong Kong to explore mainland China and East Asian markets for their goods and services. So, basically we are doing a strategy of linking up two gateways or two hubs,” Fung said.
This Lifestyle Expo in Dubai follows the success of the inaugural event in the emirate last year. Similar shows have been successfully staged in other major cities, including Budapest, Mumbai, Warsaw, Jakarta and Istanbul.
Hong Kong is Asia’s lifestyle trendsetter with major international brands using the city as a base to showcase their products and services in the region. Lifestyle Expo in Dubai features stylish and quality products: consumer electronics and ICT; gifts and premium; household products and electrical appliances; fashion and accessories; as well as a range of toys, food and beauty products.
The participating companies from Hong Kong are keen to explore new partnerships with their counterparts in the UAE and the Middle East.
On the sidelines of the expo, the HKTDC has added two more attractions to the event.
The first one is the awards for 25 companies, which are instrumental and frequent buyers of Hong Kong products, according to Fung.
