Apple rolled out hardware upgrades to its MacBook Pro and Mac Pro, aimed at allowing users to work faster and store more in what seems to serve as an appetiser to its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) next week.
Described as a 'powerful new graphics configuration', the 16-inch MacBook Pro now comes with an option for the brand-new AMD Radeon Pro 5600M graphics card with 8GB of dedicated memory, which the company says will provide up to 75 per cent better performance compared to the erstwhile highest-end option, the 5500M, and three-and-a-half times faster than the previous-generation 15-inch MacBook Pro.
The update thus makes this the MacBook Pro with the fastest graphics performance, able to seamlessly handle processes including adding complex special effects to videos, design high-performance games and render large 3D models.
Meanwhile, the Mac Pro - Apple's top-heavy computer - received an SSD kit upgrade, enabling users to upgrade the machine with extra capacity.
The kit - which can be installed by users themselves and instructions of which are available on Apple's website - includes two SSD modules with 1TB, 2TB, 4TB and 8TB capacity options.
The upgrades will be a boon for users who rely heavily on graphics and video, particularly professionals, hobbyists and gamers. Apple has increasingly boosted its computing devices to cater to this vertical, which has grown rapidly as more people rely on them to do the heavy lifting.
The move was made a week before WWDC, which kicks off on June 22. This year's edition will be, for the first time, held virtually, owing to the coronavirus pandemic.
While traditionally a software-focused event, Apple has in recent years used the platform to unveil some hardware as well. This year, it is rumoured that a new iMac and the highly-anticipated AirPods Studio over-ear headphones might make debuts.
