The UAE capital is set to welcome thousands of oil and gas professionals, industry leaders and decision makers on Monday to one of the world's most prominent energy events, the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (Adipec).
Held under the theme 'Innovation and Sustainability in a New Energy World', Adipec 2015 marks its 18th edition by breaking its previous records with the largest event to date, bringing together 2,000 exhibiting companies, including the world's leading national and international firms, 600 speakers, 7,000 delegates and 85,000 attendees from more than 120 countries.
The first day of the oil and gas exhibition and conference, which is hosted by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) and organised by dmg events, will kick off with the official opening ceremony, followed by a keynote address by the world's leading authority on energy, Dr Daniel Yergin, who will share his insights on the transforming energy landscape.
Billed as the premier speaking platform for the Middle East and North Africa, the Adipec conference programme will invite government decision makers to the stage on Monday in a ministerial panel session that will focus on driving innovation through investments in research and development, and stakeholder collaboration.
Speakers include Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Al Mazroui, the UAE Minister of Energy; Dr Mohammed bin Hamad Al Rumhy, Minister of Oil and Gas for Oman; Tarek El Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources for Egypt; and Etienne D. Ngoubou, Minister of Petroleum and Hydrocarbons for the Gabonese Republic.
Innovation and leadership
Day one will also feature the first of two CEO plenary sessions that will highlight the important roles of innovation and leadership in advancing the energy sector. Speakers include Abdul Munim Saif Al Kindy, CEO of the Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Oil Operations; Hirobumi Kawano, president of the Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation; Lars Christian Bacher, executive vice-president of Statoil; and Bill White, CEO of Lazard and former mayor of Houston.
Closing the first day, the annual Adipec Awards will announce the 2015 winners during a dinner and ceremony at the Emirates Palace. The awards recognise individuals, companies and projects that demonstrate excellence, best practice and innovation in energy from around the globe.
Ali Khalifa Al Shamsi, strategy and coordination director at Adnoc, and Adipec 2015 chairman, said: "The strong expected presence at Adipec 2015 from local and international exhibitors, as well as global experts, cements its position as one of the world's leading oil and gas events. Adipec is a reflection of Abu Dhabi and the UAE's longstanding reputation as a meeting place for oil and gas professionals, and a global knowledge exchange hub for the latest research, technologies and innovations in the energy sector."
"The excellence that we are all witnessing in the UAE's oil and gas industry is made possible through the unwavering support of the country's leadership," Al Shamsi added.
Christopher Hudson, president of global energy, dmg events, said: "Now recognised as a world-leading oil and gas conference, Adipec has become the industry's global platform for knowledge exchange, bringing together some of the most prominent figures in the industry to address the impending issues facing the energy sector. The event serves as a unique international hub, where key industry trends are discussed, new developments are introduced and best practices from around the world are shared."
