A blend of civilisations, the uniqueness of the UAE is that it has retained its individual identity, and has colours of its own. Its essence is Islamic and the broadness of its mindset encompasses all that is best from all around the world. This is why the UAE is a top destination for tourists.

Dress
Emirati dresses are held in highest esteem, irrespective of the fact that the country is cosmopolitan. Men don the kandura, an ankle-length white shirt, along with the traditional black robes on head, whereas abaya, an over-garment, is a common outfit for women. This dress code is the national and cultural identity of the UAE. The beauty of the Emirati dress is that it can be an official garment, an informal one, and at the same time, have all the pomp and festivity.

Culture
The UAE's culture and heritage is a blend of civilisations. It is widely influenced by geography and the region around it. The UAE is indeed a melting pot wherein Arab culture and influences from the Indian subcontinent have made their way. But the distinction is that the UAE has preserved its Islamic identity, and maintained a unique identity of its own. Emiratis have the highest regard for tradition, and irrespective of the fact that the country has progressed, it is one of the modern states in the world, with outlook and hospitality derived from history. Desert life, camels, mud-built villas and BBQ food are very much traditional and eulogised to this day. Emiratis are fond of museums and heritage landmarks, and make it a point to visit them off and on. This has buoyed their historical importance.

Music
The UAE has made a mark in music, and distinguishes itself from fellow Arab folk music. Yowla, sword damsels and flute are few of the most common features in Emirati culture. Fishermen folk have a special importance in UAE music and culture. Liwa is a type of music and dance, which has its origins in Africa, but has blended in local tradition for last many decades. A number of bands and instruments too are distinctive to UAE culture and enjoy specific association with local tribes and communities.

Literature
Emiratis are known to be book lovers, and have a special interest in prose and poetry. This is one of the reasons for their egalitarianism, which makes them knowledgeable and respectful in the comity of nations. There are various forms of poetry, and it encompasses satire, religion, nationalism and critic. Renowned historians and writers have contributed a lot to its cultural vibrancy and literature. Some of them are Ahmed bin Suleiman, Khalfan Musabeh and Shaikh Saqr Al Qasimi.

Cuisine
The UAE is known for its unique food. Local dishes such as harees and shawarma are popular. The warm water-tobacco duo smoking apparatus, known as sheesha, is also quite popular and people from all cultures like them. Few other Emirati specialities are Gahwa Arabia - a drink of roasted Arabic beans, cardamon and saffron, which are ground and boiled. It is a form of coffee, served hot in small cups.
Khamir, which is a yeast bread served with fresh cheese. It is a delicious confectionary produce sprinkled with sesame.
Machboos is made in several different ways with meat, chicken or fish. It is served with different side dishes such as rice.
