Schools shouldn't be lenient towards bullies

Bullying can have deep and damaging consequences. I am a victim. I was among the quietest students in the class and often a soft target. However, my introverted temperament helped me escape the bullies. I used to remain mum and not react to their acts, which annoyed the bullies and they eventually stopped bothering me.
I think schools bear the responsibility of adhering to a strict code of conduct and ensuring no one gets bullied. The teachers should encourage students to report bullying incidences, if any, and school authorities should be strict in reprimanding the culprits. No leniency should be shown towards bullying.
