Brain drain has been a perennial concern in India. Many Indians, in search of better opportunities and superior living, have settled abroad (Brain drain: Does talent follow money or opportunity? KT, Nov 20). Rampant corruption, nepotism, and inability to rise or get things done without the influence of people in power force many to leave its shores and fly abroad.
In fact, Indians do find ample opportunities for growth in their respective educational or technical fields outside India. One good example is the US. A lot of Indians are doing well there in different fields of work. The standard of living is better, remunerations are good, the country offers social security and other facilities, which makes life easy for them. They are able to focus more on doing good work and progressing in their chosen fields. It is for all of us to see, Indians have made great progress in science, technology, medicine and other industries. Whether they would have achieved the same in their home country is something that is hard to say.
