Books help us grow and promote understanding

This is in reference with the editorial 'Literature is not a luxury, it is a necessity' (KT, Oct 30). Literature is truly very important. It lends clarity to our experiences, enriches competences, reminds us of stories, scriptures, and classical works of ancient and modern times. Literary works are the portrayals of thinking patterns and social norms prevalent in society. It also encourages our imagination and creativity.
Literary works based on history, culture, epics and philosophy impact our life and our thought patterns, inspiring us, and offering us life lessons. Good literature can have a profound impact on lives, imparting key values and principles. Children's literature exposes them to a beautiful new world.
Literature provides the breadth of knowledge, carries moral values and provides enjoyment. An exposure to good literary works is necessary at every phase of life.
