The Euro16500 Group-3 event is the fourth leg of international Wathba Stud Farm Cup series and will share the limelight on one of Europe’s biggest dirt-track nights for thoroughbreds.

Top 12 runners representing six countries have been declared for the line-up. Abu Dhabi Sports Channel will show the race live from at 8.30pm UAE time on Friday.

Among the runners is the Scandinavian champion Arabian SR Dorwan from Denmark. But the mount of two-time German Derby winner Fredrik Johansson, Gharaa, will be the one to beat.

The winner’s trophy will be presented by the UAE ambassador to Sweden, Shaikha Najla Mohammad Al Qasimi.

Lara Sawaya, director of Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival, said during the pre-race Press conference: “The most important thing is that we have established a base in Sweden with this debut event from which we can grow and further encourage local Arabian breeders internationally.”

Mats Genburg, chairman of the Scandinavian Arabian racing Association (SARA), said: “Arabian racing plays the role of the kid brother to thoroughbred racing in Europe. But our inclusion in the Shaikh Mansour bin zayed Al Nahyan Festival is an important sign of credibility which will put Arabian racing up where it belongs in Scandinavia.”

Stephen Bowey, head of marketing and communications at Invest AD, the festival’s main sponsor, said: “Shaikh Mansour’s effort to support and encourage Arabian breeders all over the world is a very will globalise the sport. Invest AD globalises from a different perspective by attracting investors to the Middle East and North Africa. We are very proud to be associated with this exciting event.”

The Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival is a three-pronged competition which is now in its third year since inception. Aside from The Wathba Studfarm Cup there is also the parallel-running Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nayhan Cup and the Shaikha Fatma bint Mubarak Ladies Fagentri. Races are held all over the world from April to October.

Meanwhile, Sawaya has also announced that the Shaikha Fatma bint Mubarak Ladies Fagentri will add Poland to its list of destinations from next season.

“Plans to break new grounds by bringing the festival races to Australia in 2012 are also considered,” she said.

It has also been revealed that the World Arabian Horse Racing Conference from June 16-19 will be shown live on Abu Dhabi Sports Channel.
