Essa Al Maidoor, Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority, and Brigadier Mohammed Al Marri, Director-General of General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs-Dubai, inaugurated the centre.

The centre is spread over an area of 20,000 square feet and features a VIP lounge; a kids play area, typing centre, two coffee shops, a reading area and is equipped with state-of-the-art medical facilities.

Al Maidoor said: “We are in the process of designing and implementing more centres of this kind. The aim is to expand existing medical fitness centres as well as develop new ones to provide customers with convenient options across all geographical areas of the emirate.”

Maisa Al Bustani, director of medical fitness at the DHA, said: “This centre provides express medical services which include three options — customers can choose to obtain medical fitness results within 4 hours, 24 hours or 48 hours. The centre is located in the heart of Karama and will be convenient for the people living in the vicinity.”

It is located near the Emirates Post office in Karama, and is open from 7.30am to 9.30pm Sundays to Thursdays.

Al Bustani said that the DHA will open a state-of-the-art centre in Uptown Mirdiff by the end of this year, which will be dedicated to medical fitness of certain categories of employees who fall under the occupational health screening category.

This includes cooks, cleaners, industrial workers, painters, heavy-vehicle drivers etc. “We need to assess the physical capabilities of employees in certain sectors and therefore a dedicated centre for these employees will further streamline the medical fitness process.”

She added that presently a new centre in Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA) is under construction and once completed, the services of the existing centre will relocate to the new one. The new centre in JAFZA has a capacity to accommodate 500 customers per day and is exclusively for people working and residing in that zone.

Al Bustani also mentioned that the Al Satwa Medical Fitness Centre, which has a capacity to accommodate 700 clients per day and caters to express services and female employees, has been temporarily closed for renovation.

“We will expand the centre and are carrying out some renovations as its one of the oldest medical fitness centres in the emirate. In the meantime, clients can use the Karama medical fitness centre, which has three times the capacity of the Al Satwa centre and also provides express services.”

She added that female clients can go to the Rashidiya medical fitness centre which is a fully dedicated for female employees or they can choose any of the other medical fitness centres in their vicinity.
