Dubai — The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) hospitals and health centres will have a medical council that will be partly formed by doctors and they will meet on a weekly basis, according to a senior health official.

“The council will present their reports directly to the higher management. This will help quickly streamline any issues that present themselves during the day-to-day functioning of the health facilities and it will help further develop the functioning of the health entities,” said Humaid Mohammed Obaid Al Qatami, Chairman of the board of the DHA.

Furthermore, the higher management will receive regular feedback on the functioning of the health facilities.

“This will also lead to positive competition between DHA health providers, which is beneficial for the overall health sector,” said Al Qatami.

He announced the details at a recently concluded two-day open forum that was held for the employees to have a direct conversation with the chairman.

The meeting known as ‘Open Forum with the chairman and DHA employees,’ took place at the Rashid Medical Library Auditorium.

Al Qatami, said: “The forum presents an opportunity for employees to give constructive feedback in a format that is comfortable.  We want to create a culture where everyone is open to feedback on every level throughout the year so that together we can strengthen and positively develop the functioning of all departments across all entities of the DHA.”

Al Qatami added that such forums will take place regularly and “the outcomes of the forums will be evaluated and discussed from time-to-time.”

He said the DHA will work with the relevant health authorities in the UAE, including the Ministry of Health and Health Authority Abu Dhabi, to ensure unified criteria to access qualification of health professionals.

He added that there will be more investment in residency programmes to ensure a steady stream of highly-qualified medical professionals.
