Abu Dhabi's Department of Health called the New Medical Center, the authorised distributor of the medicine 'Metaphage 500mg', to withdraw the product from the market, also asking pharmacies to not sell it to customers.
The decision comes after the Gulf Central Committee for Drug Registration found that the product doesn't meet the approved standards, following a similar decision issued by the Ministry of Health.
The medicine is used for controlling high level of blood sugar for patients of type 2 diabetes.
Additionally, the department has issued an announcement about 31 missing prescriptions for controlled medicines, with serial numbers 2874669 to 2874700. 
They have asked all pharmacies and health authorities to not sell medicines on the above mentioned prescriptions, and to report the department on this number 02.4193648 or email : cdreport@hoh.gov.ae
