Essa Al Maidoor, Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), said: “In the last 42 years, health and healthcare in the UAE has undergone a tremendous transformation, keeping pace with the rapid development of the UAE, we are thankful to all our leaders.”
He was speaking at an event to felicitate former, long-serving and future leaders of the DHA at a gala ceremony held at the Zabeel Ladies Club.
Shaikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and president of the DHA, presented certificates to the authority’s former director-generals and directors, 87 DHA employees who have completed more than 35 years at the DHA, and 31 young DHA leaders who have completed their graduation programme from the International Hospital Federation.
Al Maidoor said human resources play a crucial role in the field of healthcare and he thanked Shaikh Hamdan bin Rashid for felicitating the DHA leaders.
Talking about the future of the healthcare sector in Dubai, Al Maidoor said the authority chalked out the Dubai Health Strategy 2013-2025 in May last year.
Al Maidoor said in line with the health strategy plan and keeping the Dubai Expo 2020 in mind, the health sector will witness major developments in the coming years.
He said that this year itself the health regulation department of the authority has granted 130 new facility licences and 5,208 professional licences, adding to the facilities and manpower in the health sector.
Presently Dubai has a total of 25 hospitals (21 in the private sector and four in the government sector.), 1,200 polyclinics and 580 pharmacies, and work on 18 new private hospitals is under way in the emirate.
With more than 2,229 health facilities in the emirate, over 21,500 healthcare professionals (15,500 in the private sector and 6,000 in the public sector) are employed here.
