Science and culture show opens in Dubai

DUBAI - The first cultural and scientific exhibition titled 'Towards the Path of Creativity' organised by Emirates Scientific Club, was formally inaugurated by Ibrahim Bu Melha, Vice-Chairman of Dubai Department of Justice, Attorney-General and Chairman of Dubai Cultural and Scientific Association on Thursday at the premises of the club.

The opening of the week-long event, which will run till April 24, was attended by Dr Ahmed Al Hashimi, Director of Dubai Medical Zone and Chairman of the club's board and a large number of visitors from all nationalities residing in UAE.

Speaking to Khaleej Times Bellal Al Bedour, general secretary of the club said that this programme will be held periodically on annual bases to promote the creativity among youth and enhance their abilities to develop their skills.


The exhibition is featuring a wide range of devices conducted by the members of associations including the invention by the Colonel Saqr Majid Al Merry who invented a laser-operated computer that can be used by paralysed people and can also be used by normal people.

A pillow for deaf is used to wake up the deaf at pre-determined time by vibrating the pillow when needed.


A fire alarm device was also among many works showcasing the progress made by UAE youth in terms of scientific invention.

Ghulam Ali, an Indian inventor was invited by the club to exhibit his work. He made a lighted sand picture of General Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Minister of Defence, out of discarded material such as out of use vacuum cleaner extention tubes, bathroom fittings and rubber hose.

Speaking to Khaleej Times Mr Ali who designed the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) 1996 logo out of discarded material, said that the main objectives of the inventing devices out of discarded material is to induce the creative thinking in the children's mind to keep them away from crime and drugs.
