The newly established company will offer music and video production, recording facilities and promotion services.

Fawaz Hallak, President of Columbia Production, said that the UAE is an ideal centre for showbiz, since it has a strong multi-cultural perspective and an international vision.

“The UAE has already earned a solid reputation as the media, arts and entertainment centre in the region. With our strategic partners, we will be able to bring a total solution package to the industry, that will help promote local, regional and international artistes,” said Hallak.

Columbia Production’s partners are Festival Gallery, an event management company; Mise en Scene, a Mumbai-based video production house; and Paris Gallery.

Abdulla bin Khair, the famous UAE singer, arrived at the launch party wearing an equally striking and beautiful traditional dress. “It’s a combination of Dubai and Omani national attire,” he explained to Khaleej Times, adding: “I once gave a live concert in Oman and 300,000 people attended it. Wearing their traditional garment is my way of saying thank you to them.”

Regarding Columbia Production, he said: “I don’t know what their plans are, but I hope they are going to do something different. The most urgent needs of the music industry in UAE are a professional orchestra, a proper concert hall and a music academy.”

Another star of the evening was Jawad Al Ali, a well-known singer from Saudi Arabia. He too was keen to find out what Columbia Production is going to do for the music industry. “We’ll have to wait and see what they are going to come up with, but I hope it’s going to be good things. I also hope they include me in their events,” he told Khaleej Times.

He added that he would gladly give a concert in Abu Dhabi if he were invited to. In the meantime, he is busy with the finishing touches for his new album, which is going to be released after Ramadan.

To celebrate its first birthday party, Columbia Production also organised a concert on Thursday night, where several artistes performed.
