The corporation signed an agreement yesterday with Cars Company, which will provide APTC with a fleet of 800 taxis and vans. The agreement was signed by Habibulla, Joint Managing Director of Cars and Abdulkareem Abdullah, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the corporation.
Speaking to Khaleej Times, Abdullah said the corporation will provide its services to the travelling public within the emirates and to neighbouring emirates. The services, which will be run by Cars Company under the supervision of the corporation.
Abdullah pointed out that the corporation, which is part of the Ajman government, will in coordination with the municipality, set up designated stops for its taxi in all residential areas to ferry passengers to shopping centres and malls, schools, hospitals, museums and government departments concerned with community services.
The corporation will have a rate card, which would be affordable to all for movement both within and outside the emirate.
Abdullah urged all UAE nationals who currently own taxis to return their number to the Traffic and Licensing Department and receive compensation for it, since all the taxis in Ajman would be consolidated under the corporation's fleet gradually after their licenses expire, which will not be renewed.
He said the establishment of the corporation was aimed at facilitating transportation of people travelling between Ajman and other emirates and to improve traffic conditions in the emirate by decreasing the number of vehicles. Only a good transport system will contribute towards the development of infrastructure and improve investment opportunities in the emirate, he said.
He said the Ajman government was making efforts to improve various services offered by it to cope with the rapid development of the emirate. The corporation would also take several practical steps to improve transport operations in the emirate by providing round-the-clock services, seven days a week.
