Shaikh Mohammed seeks better data collation

The Dubai Statistics Centre and the local departments have been asked by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to work closely for the collation of online data on economic, demographic, social and healthcare trends in Dubai.

During a visit to the centre on Tuesday, he launched a strategic plan for 2012-2015.

Shaikh Mohammed was accompanied by Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Shaikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai.

He listened to a presentation by the statistics centre’s Chief Executive Officer Arif Al Mehairi on the outstanding achievements of the centre since its inception in 2006. Al Mehairi highlighted the role of the centre as the official statistics body authorised to collect and analyse statistical data and information in Dubai. It is also tasked with performing population and housing studies and economic surveys.

Speaking toKhaleej Times, Tariq Al Janahi, Director of Excellence and Support Section at the centre, said the objective of he centre is to provide a transparent, standardised system of statistics, which supports decision-making. “Our aim is to support the government, business and society as a whole,” he said, adding that 90 per cent of the work done by the centre is digital.

Shaikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chief Executive Officer of the Emirates airline and Group; Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shaibani, Director of Dubai Ruler’s Court; and Lt.-General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, were also present.

Shaikh Mohammed later met employees of the centre and lauded their achievements.
