DM intensifies efforts on livestock vaccination campaign

The veterinary service section of public health services depart at Dubai Municipality continues the vaccination campaign for the livestock and other animals from epidemic and infectious diseases.

The move is aimed at achieving the strategic goal of the emirate of Dubai developing a strategic plan to maintain the growth of livestock sector, improve the animal health, and increase the productivity. It also aims at maintaining both human and animal health through the control of animal diseases through fortification programs to raise and ensure the level of bio security.

Eng. Mohammed Yusuf, acting head of veterinary service section said these annual vaccination campaigns play a big role in reducing the infectious diseases raising the immunity of animals and reducing the treatment in addition to the eradication of diseases.

“The vaccination campaign was executed during the first half of the current year for 91,617 animals. It is a remarkable increase comparing to the 60,403 animals immunized in the first half of last year, which is attributed to the increasing health awareness of workers in these organizations and farms about the bio security and their compliance with the public health and safety rules in the emirate of Dubai.

“We also work to provide veterinary guidance for livestock farmers about how to care, prevent and treat diseases and epidemics that threaten the livestock, through cleaner barns as well as the importance of providing spaces to isolate new animals to ensure that they are free from infectious diseases,” he said.

He explained that the department has provided a range of veterinary medicines including antibiotics, internal and external parasites, anti-inflammatory drugs and disinfectants, which are used in the treatment of infectious diseases.

He also urged those who oversee the commercial and non-commercial farms to cooperate with the civic body through their registration in the animals immunization register in order to avoid any risk to the health.
