Speaking to newsmen at the FA offices in Dubai on Saturday, the new pro-league boss Saeed Abdul Ghaffar said all arrangements have been made to kick off yet another successful season by September 10.
“The long awaited 3+1 plan has been officially approved,” he confirmed hinting at the right of pro-league clubs to register three foreigners plus one Asian player. This is in addition to 35 local players to bring the total number 39 in each club.”
Regarding the earlier plans to increase the number of the Pro-League clubs to 14, Abdul Ghaffar said the number of clubs will remain unchanged.
“I would like above all to thank Shaikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Honourary President of the UAEFA for all what he has been providing for the UAE football,” he said.
The Press conference was attended by Abdulla Nasser Al Junaibi, vice-chairman of the pro-league interim committee along with the members Mohammed Saeed Al Nuaimi, Khaled Abdul Karim Al Fahim and Dr. Khaled Mohammed Abdulla.
Abdul Ghaffar said Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithi, president of the UAEFA, has attended the first meeting of the interim committee which has discussed the declaration of the new body and other issues on the agenda.
“Abdulla Al Junaibi is the spokesman of the committee while Khaled Abdul Karim will be in charge of the marketing affairs, Mohammed Saeed Al Nuaimi will be responsible for the technical affairs and Dr. Khaled Mohammed Abdulla will discharge the administrative matters,” he said.
There were also discussions on the agenda and schedule of the upcoming season and the draw which will be held in Dubai on July 6. Speaking about the new name and logo, Abdul Ghaffar said it’s not a very big deal. “We will operate in any name or logo under the umbrella of the UAE football association.
“The UFL was and will remain to be one of the UAEFA committees and the AFC is aware of the same. The planning and development of the game is the responsibility of the association and it’s impossible to have two independent bodies to run the same activity.
“What matters for the FIFA and AFC is not the name or logo of the UFL, but the independent financial and marketing authorities and the FA has satisfied this condition. The association is the only governing body of the game and this should be made clear,” he said.
