‘Legends’ take centre stage in Ramadan tournament

UAE’s 1990 football squad which represented the country at the World Cup in Italy was honoured by du at the awards ceremony of the event.

Earlier, an entertaining friendly match was played between the 1990 National squad and members of du’s own team.

The event, which took place on 31 August, began with the friendly match between the 1990 National team and du team, which included various members of the company’s senior management.

The two sides played an entertaining game with the UAE ex-National team winning by a 7-5 margin.

The 1990 National team members included Adnan Al Talyani, Muhsen Musabeh, Fahad Khamis, Khalid Ismail, Abdullah Sultan, Naser Khamis, Abd Al Rahman Mohamed and Bader Hareb.

The friendly match was followed by the final match of the tournament between du’s Technology and Customer Care departments.

After a thrilling game, which concluded with a penalty shoot-out, Customer Care (2-1) won the Ramadan Cup for the second consecutive year.

“It was an honour to host the stars of the UAE’s 1990 National Football Team at our second Ramadan Cup Football Tournament,” commented Fahad Al Hassawi, Chief Human Resources and Shared Services Officer, du.

“It was a great way to pay tribute to their contribution to the nation’s football history .

“We are pleased to announce the winners of this year’s event and would like to congratulate our Customer Care department for their outstanding performance and thank all the players who participated.

“It has been a very exciting tournament, and we truly enjoyed a great day of football,” he added.

At the end of the ceremony, Osman Sultan, CEO of du, in the presence of Farid Faraidooni, du’s Chief Commercial Officer, and Ahmad Aburahima, du’s Vice President of Government Relations, congratulated the UAE’s football heroes on their performance and praised them for building the UAE’s reputation in football.
