State broadcaster RTE said an autopsy carried out on Tuesday showed 27-year-old Michaela Harte, daughter of manager Mickey Harte, had been strangled. Police in Mauritius said they had launched a murder inquiry and had a list of at least 10 suspects.
Harte, an Irish language teacher who was known for being by her father’s side during his All-Ireland football triumphs with the Northern Irish county of Tyrone, was found dead in her room at the Legends Hotel in the village of Grande Gaube on Monday.
RTE quoted Superintendent Yussuf Soopun of the Major Crime Unit in Mauritius as saying Harte’s husband, Down footballer John McAreavey, was not being treated as a suspect. The couple had married on Dec. 30.
