Five winning UAE supporters will be the guests of honour at the UAE premiere of Blue Moon Rising—a film that follows the real life fortunes of five Manchester City fans in the north of England during the rollercoaster ride of the 2009-2010 season.

To be held on November 5, the invite-only evening will also include a Manchester City supporters party to be held on the lawns of the Emirates Palace.

Several Manchester City FC players were recently in Abu Dhabi and experienced the excitement among local football fans for the team.

“The more fans we have the better for the club and if we are well-known internationally, players will be more familiar with our club before they join,” said midfielder and former World Cup winner Patrick Vieira. “The City fans are very passionate and committed. Fans of English football are very knowledgeable and supportive,” he said.

James Milner, a recent signing for City and an England international, said he believed the loyalty of Manchester City fans was a great bedrock on which to bring success to the club. “I think it’s well-known that City fans are one of the most loyal set of supporters around. As players, I’d say we are well aware of their passion. They are unique in many ways but their loyalty probably sets them apart,” he said.

Blue Moon Rising is a film about obsession, passion and friendship and what football can do to your whole life. Since being bought by Shaikh Mansour of Abu Dhabi in August 2008, Manchester City has been transformed.

After 34 years without a trophy, City are now one of the most talked about clubs in world football. They’ve bought star players and can now compete with their great Manchester rivals.

Viewed through the eyes of a group of adoring City fans, this is the story of the Club during the 2009-10 season – the first full year under Abu Dhabi control.

With unique access to star players and celebrity fans, including Noel Gallagher, the feature-length documentary charts the highs and lows of a historic year. Entertaining, intimate and poignant, the film reveals a passion for football that has rarely been shown before.
