Al Jazira is a UAE football club based in Abu Dhabi, and is currently top of the table in the UAE Football League, after finishing second last season.

The deal sees Barclays become the exclusive financial services sponsor of Al Jazira, providing hospitality and branding opportunities, including sponsorship of the two towers at Al Jazira’s Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium, which will be rebranded the ‘Barclays Towers’.

John Vitalo, CEO, Middle East and North Africa, Barclays Plc said: “This sponsorship is a tangible demonstration to our clients that Barclays continues to be fully committed to the UAE and the region. It allows us to partner with one of the premier clubs, and provides excellent branding and hospitality opportunities for clients that will help us achieve our business goals.

“This deal is in line with our sponsorship of the Barclays Premier League, the best known and most popular domestic football league in the world, and hugely popular in the UAE. It will align our brand with the dynamism, leadership, healthy lifestyle, vision and pride that are associated with this sport.”

Sultan Abu Sultan, Chairman Barclays Bank Plc UAE, added: “Barclays has been operating in the UAE region for 35 years and our sponsorship with Al Jazira is a new and fresh way to engage our customers and further raise awareness of our brand. Barclays has a long history of sponsorships, and we are looking forward to an excellent partnership as the season progresses.”

Mohammed Thani Al Romaithi, Chairman of Al Jazira Sports and Cultural Club said: “We are delighted to have Barclays join us in fulfilling the vision of Shaikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Western Region, and Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister of UAE and Minister of Presidential Affairs, in establishing Al Jazira Sports and Cultural Club as a regional leader. Barclays international presence and experience in supporting the development of societies adds great value to our club.”

Phil Anderton, Chief Executive Officer of Al Jazira Sports and Cultural Club, concluded: “This new partnership with Barclays strengthens further our ability to compete at the highest level and to take a leading role within our community. We could look for no better partner than Barclays to compliment our existing roster of prestigious partners.”
