Arabic and Islamic studies in the UAE University. MP Salam Mohammed
Al Ameri said prospective applicants must achieve a score of 500 in TOEFL and band 5 in IELTS although the learning language is Arabic. The prerequisite, he said, led students to join oversees universities that don’t ask them to sit for these tests. He asked if the there is any intention to waive that requirement?
He added that the University has diverse resources for learning English, the language of learning, science and knowledge. ‘We want our students to learn other languages for their benefit ....... it is not a hard target to reach and we are trying our best to help students.’
‘ Passing these tests serves both the student and his community and empowers students to join the field of work they like most.
‘The UAEU will consider this matter ....... we have gained international recognitions that many countries didn’t have .......... we can also take advice of the house education committee,’ he concluded.
