The Abu Dhabi Education Council school services division manager Khaled Al Ansari said Adec has collaborated with Emirates Transport to install the new tracking systems in order to identify the required number of school buses, ensure their optimal use and to design and select the best routes within the shortest travel time.

“This system will be implemented after collecting and entering information on student addresses into Adec systems. In the next few years, parents will be able to obtain bus travel details prior to the beginning of the new school year, to include arrival time, time spent in the bus, driver name and bus number,” said Al Ansari.

He added that the introduction of the student card system is being coordinated by Adec and Emirates Transport to document student movement in and out of the bus.

“Parents will be notified via SMS if there are any changes in travel plan such as delays, ending up in a new location, bus breakdown or not getting down from the bus. This way, parents can follow up student travel details and be reassured that they are safe,” the Adec official explained.

Al Ansari added that nearly 70 per cent of public school students use these buses, though that figure varied from region to region.

Adec has already signed contracts to provide 1,813 buses to facilitate students traveling to public schools, evening centres, activity venues and adult education centres.

Emirates Transport has been contracted to supply 1,370 bus supervisors. The increase in the number of buses and supervisors is expected to be about five per cent per annum due to the construction boom in the Emirate and the increasing number of facilities in new cities and areas, says Adec.
