Sustainable award for schools

The Environment and Natural Reserves in Sharjah (ENRS) on Monday launched the first edition of the Sharjah Sustainable Award, known as Green Schools Award, for the academic year 2012-2013.

Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, Chairman – ENRS, said the Award is aimed at encouraging environment-friendly practices among students and training them on sustainability during class- and non-class-based activities. “We do want to create a sustainable green school environment, develop and enhance environment culture, reward distinguished environment projects, and boost innovation and competition for protecting the environment.”

The Sharjah Sustainable Award spans an array of categories including the rationalisation of power and water consumption, development of greenery, and the protection of wildlife environment and its diversity.

“Winners will be awarded a valuable prize money, trophy and excellence certificate whereas other participants will be gifted other awards and appreciation certificates,” she said.

Saeed Al Kaabi, Director of Sharjah Education Zone, said it has become indispensable to build a healthy attractive school environment for students of the emirate and whole country.

“We should spare no effort in developing students’ environmental awareness and promoting the concept of green economy.”
