Changes in the UAE are happening in every sector and education is at the forefront, says Mohammad Abdullah, Managing Director, Dubai Knowledge Park and Dubai International Academic City, in an interview with Khaleej Times on the sidelines of the 2016 Industry and University Partnership (I-UP) Forum, hosted by Dubai Knowledge Park, a member of TECOM Group. Excerpts:
Future of education
Recent initiatives undertaken by Dubai, and the UAE in general, focus on education to prepare talent to meet industry needs of the future. This involves schools, higher educational institutions and vocational training institutes. The roles of all these sectors are being evaluated. We have to support institutions to respond to the demands of the market and to the changes that are happening around the world, mainly the trend towards digital. If you are not prepared, then you will not be able to take education to the level of closing the gap between different industry requirements, market needs in terms of skills, and availability.
Encountering challenges
Challenges are everywhere. There is always a demand and need for statistics, for numbers and analysis to come to solutions. This is where we partner with local, regional or international organisations to address certain topics, the challenges present, how to tackle them, and come up with solutions.
Additional info.
We want to share details of the survey that relates to the market needs in Dubai and the UAE. The survey highlights the challenges, gives an overview of the potential to be addressed, and works towards implementing them. Industry University Partnership is the connection between workforce and academic institutions when it comes to government rules and regulations, which need to be adapted in order to cater to new working environments, and this is what we are looking at.
