UAE Vision 2021 National Agenda aims at creating a competitive knowledge-based economy. It focuses on the UAE becoming the economic, tourist and commercial capital by promoting innovation and research and development. UAE Vision 2021 aims to improve ranking of the UAE in key performance indicators Global Innovation Index, Global Competitiveness Index and Global Entrepreneurship and Development Index (GEDI). A key driver for innovation, economic growth and national security for achieving those goals is a STEM-proficient workforce. STEM skills are needed to fill jobs in sectors such as energy, manufacturing, food production, and perhaps most significantly, healthcare. STEM education is not only about economy, it is about people as well. People with STEM skills are guaranteed to have jobs. The worldwide shortage in STEM skilled workforce means increase in employment opportunity and mobility for them. This is going to be the pattern for the next two decades.
