The distribution of tablet devices and storage cabinets to Abu Mousa School in Sharjah by the Sharjah Education Zone marked the completion of the second phase of 'Lughati', the smart Arabic learning initiative that aims to support the learning of Arabic in Sharjah schools using modern technology.
Launched in January 2016 by His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, the second phase of Lughati saw students and teachers in Sharjah's public schools receive smart tablets free of charge. The initiative in its entirety aims to distribute tablets to 25,000 students and 1,000 teachers of all grades in Sharjah's public schools.
The second phase of Lughati involved the distribution of tablets that incorporated new innovative programmes and purpose-built applications, along with training elements for members of the faculties, all of which were developed in collaboration with 'Horouf' Educational Publishing - a subsidiary of Kalimat Group.
Badria Al Ali, manager of Lughati, said: "We launched Lughati initiative in line with the vision of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi to support learning of Arabic using modern technology and advanced digital programmes. Arabic language is a basic pillar of the Arab identity and is a vital cultural component that brings the Arab nation together. We have successfully concluded the second phase of Lughati, achieving its objective of distributing the target number of smart tablets to students and teachers in Sharjah's public schools."
Badria Al Ali pointed out that the second phase of Lughati had an estimated value of Dh15.5 million and involved the distribution of smart tablets to 2,977 first grade students and 129 teachers in 49 of Sharjah's educational establishments.
The supporting of Arabic education in public schools in Sharjah using state-of-the-art technology was officially announced by Shaikh Sultan in 2013. The initiative was approved by Shaikh Sultan in January 2016 under the title 'Lughati' to develop education in the emirate, preserve the Arabic language and endear Arabic studies to children by incorporating modern methods. Lughati was conceived as an educational and scientific response to the requirements of smart learning methods, with its introduction designed to help build a knowledge-based society by enhancing the delivery of education. reporters@khaleejtimes.com
