The Dubai Crown Prince has announced an initiative to recognise, reward and retain outstanding high school students. Taking to Twitter on Sunday, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said Dubai students who excel would be granted the Golden Visa and scholarships.
The scholarships are for the top Emirati Grade 12 students, while the 10-year residency is for exceptional expatriates and their families.
Financial rewards will be given to 50 high school students as well. Scholarships to study in UAE-based or international universities will be offered to Emiratis. Outstanding expatriate students will be given discounts to pursue their higher education in international university branches in Dubai.
A unified system will help select the students from private and public schools following various curricula, including the UAE ministerial one, American, British, and International Baccalaureate.
The aim is to motivate high school students to excel.
The first batch of top students will be honoured in September 2022.
Sheikh Hamdan said Dubai’s ambitious vision can only be realised by supporting the future generations, “especially the outstanding among them”.
“The system honours and appreciates everyone who has worked hard. It will help us increase Emiratisation rates,” he added.

The system is inspired by the gesture of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to appreciate exceptional high school students in the UAE. Recently, the UAE Vice-President had called and congratulated the top-performing students in the end-of-term public exams.
“With science, nations and societies rise … and this is what motivates us to continue developing the education system in Dubai and providing the best to our students — both Emiratis and expatriates. Investing in science and providing students with the necessary support and knowledge are the foundation upon which the future of the nation is based,” he said.
Sheikh Hamdan also thanked every father and mother for pushing their children to excel; and every teacher and educator for their efforts.
