The police recovered the tourist's body, which was buried in a desert in a neighbouring emirate.
According to Major-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, the tourist "disappeared after landing at the Dubai International Airport". Investigations revealed that the 47-year-old woman, her 29-year-old son, and two of their accomplices waited outside the airport, dragged the victim to their car and assaulted him to death.
They then kept the body in the car for two days, before burying it in a desert.
Major-General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, explained that the case came to light after the victim's son arrived in the UAE in August and reported his father missing. He told the police that the family was very worried about not being able to communicate with the 55-year-old after he landed in Dubai.
Maj-Gen Al Mansouri said the department concerned at the airport confirmed the victim's entry to the country. A team entrusted with investigating the case found that the victim had not established contact with anyone after coming to the country.
Following the investigation process, the scope of the police search was expanded to outside the borders of the state to see if he had a dispute with anyone back in his home country.
Investigations revealed he had a relationship with the prime accused. It emerged that she arrived in the UAE with her son and the other two suspects before the victim did. Further, it also emerged that Dh200,000 was withdrawn from the victim's credit card in a European country.Arrest
They reportedly confessed to the crime. Based on this, the police took legal permission and recovered the body from a desert in Abu Dhabi.
