The woman was working at the Dubai International Airport when she asked her colleague for her ID to “temporarily register her mobile number in her name”, claiming she had some problems with Etisalat billing. But she took ten mobile connections for her in her colleague’s name after she forged her signature and made calls worth more than Dh53,000.
The complainant, a 30-year-old Emirati airport employee, said during the investigation that she had given the accused her ID as she was her colleague and she trusted her and wanted to help her. However, she was surprised in May last year when she received notifications from Etisalat about bills cumulative on five numbers in her name.
She checked with one of the service provider outlets and came to know that someone had ten mobile numbers and data packages issued in her name.
She asked the accused about the matter and the latter said that it was her sister who did it and kept eluding cancelling those numbers. The complainant reported the incident to the airport police.
An Etisalat customer service employee at a Sharjah outlet said that she issued a SIM card with a mobile phone data package for the defendant upon her request after verifying the ID she gave.
And later on, the accused came again to apply for another number and data package in somebody else’s name but she was turned down.
Another Etisalat staff confirmed that he had issued three mobile numbers with data packages for the accused after checking the ID she presented.
The Public Prosecution evidence includes five forms in which the accused forged the complainant’s signature to unlawfully avail of the Etisalat services.
