The investigation did not find anyone to have initiated the act and no one is being sought after for any further investigations, said Brigadier Ali Alwan, Director-General of the Ajman Police.

“All our departments that have been involved in this investigation have agreed that according to the evidence collected, there was no foul play in the fire, it was a fateful accident and the will of almighty Allah,” he said. The Ajman Forensic Laboratory, the CID and the fire experts from Dubai all cooperated in the investigations, he added.

The forensic laboratory, he said, had also finalised its investigations and was ready to release the bodies of the two maids to their families. He said the Consulate-General of Ethiopia and Embassy of Indonesia had both been notified about the deaths and asked to facilitate the decision of family members to either repatriate or bury the bodies here.

The funeral prayers and burial of the Emirati family was held on the same day of the accident. The police had previously said the fire was caused by a short-circuit in an air conditioner in the hall of the villa which quickly spread and caught the furniture, including couch and sofa-set that caused massive smoke leading to the suffocation of the family members who were sleeping. afkarali@khaleejtimes.com
