A Canadian man was sentenced to six months in prison, deportation and fined Dh20,000 as compensation for assaulting a man. He broke his jaw, disfiguring him permanently.
According to local media reports, the 23-year-old Canadian had a fight with the Arab victim in their class in Ajman. The accused attacked the victim and broke his jaw, severely injuring him, disfiguring him by 10 per cent that affects his ability to chew food.
The accused confessed to attacking the victim, explaining that the latter used to insulted him in front of their classmates and call him names, which - as a Canadian - he didn't understand, so he punched him, the victim said.
He added that he didn't mean to break his jaw or causing him permanent damage.
