During interrogation, the suspects told Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers that they used machines that could copy 1,000 CDs per hour and sold each of them for Dh10.
The three have been referred to the Public Prosecution. A senior officer said the arrests were made during an inspection campaign to seize fake products and pirated CDs including those of pornographic movies.
He added that the campaign would be intensified to curb such illegal activities that affect the safety and security of the communities. He also urged the public to cooperate with the police by reporting anyone found selling or promoting such CDs.
One held, e-cards to open banned websites seized
The police also arrested the owner of an electronic shop for allegedly selling electronic cards used to open encrypted pornographic websites.
The man was arrested on Wednesday from his shop in Al Ghuwair area. Twenty-two electronic cards were found in his possession.
He told the police that he had been selling these cards to youths. He bought them for Dh90 per card from a neighbouring emirate and sold it for Dh330 each.
The police urged the parents to monitor their children and check whether they have such cards with them. Using such cards and visiting prohibited websites are against the moral values of the community, an officer said, and urged the residents to report to the police if they find any vendors selling such cards. — afkarali@khaleejtimes.com
